NEW PHONICS !!

Before progressing onto studying digraphs (2 phonemes) we wanted to review all the new phonics we've done this year and to do so, we revised them differently. We matched pictures up with their phonic and identified them on the Interactive board as well as doing blending (break down words into letters).

Antes de avanzar en el estudio de sonidos de 2 fonemas, queríamos repasar todos los sonidos nuevos que hemos estudiado este curso y para ello los estudiamos de diferentes formas. Emparejamos los sonidos con sus dibujos y los identificamos en la pizarra digítal; también desglosamos palabras en los sonidos correspondientes.

PHONICS DOMINO GAME !!

In order to revise some of the phonics we've been working on along this year, last week we played a domino game in which the children had to link phonics with their corresponding picture. An additional difficulty to the game was that the cards came with lower case letters, which we haven't really worked on that much. However, that was no hardship for the children overall since they seemed to figure out which phonic they had in front of them.

Para repasar algunos de los sonidos que hemos trabajado durante el curso, la semana pasada jugamos al domino con unas tarjetas que tenían un dibujo y una letra y que los niños tenían que unir. Una dificultad extra del juego es que las tarjetas tenían las letras en minúscula, la cual apenas hemos trabajado, aunque eso no fue impedimento para ellos, ya que supieron resolver de qué letra se trataba.

AUGMENTED REALITY !!

The first week after the Christmas holiday was a review week and we did activities that weren't very demanding so that the children settled in. One of them was an augmented reality colouring activity. The children particularly enjoyed when they saw on the tablet that what they'd coloured in came alive!

La primera semana después de las vacaciones de Navidad fue una semana de repaso e hicimos actividades que no requerían demasiado esfuerzo para que los alumnos se fueran adaptando. Una de las actividades fue colorear un dibujo de realidad aumentada. Los niños disfrutaron sobre todo cuando vieron que lo que habían coloreado tenía vida propia.

MASTERING NUMBERS !!

Numbers is something we've been working on mostly every day since the beginning of the course. The children now know up to 30 and we'll continue to scale that up till the end of the academic year.

Los números es algo en lo que hemos estado trabajando practicamente todos los días desde el inicio de curso. Los niños de momento se saben hasta el 30 pero lo vamos a incrementar de aqui a final de curso.

TOPIC REVIEW !!

This first term, apart from learning new sounds, vocabulary, questions and sentences, we also reviewed (at different dates throughout the term) some topics we covered last year, such as clothes, professions, body parts and transport among others. Here's a recap of the vocabulary we learnt through a picture-revealing game on the interactive white board.

En este primer trimestre, además de aprender nuevos sonidos, vocabulario, preguntas y frases, hemos repasado (en diferentes fechas del trimestre) algunos temas que aprendimos el año pasado, como son la ropa, profesiones, partes del cuerpo o transporte entre otros. In the last few days, we've been singing the "do you like...?" song and have learnt the question too. In the following video clip, the children ask one another what they like and don't like.

PHONICS WITH MINI BOOKS !!

For the past few weeks, we've been learning new phonics and for each of them we made a cut-out mini book with vocabulary in it.
Durante las últimas semanas hemos aprendido nuevos sonidos y con cada uno de ellos hemos hecho un librito con vocabulario dentro de él.

PLASTIC POLLUTION !!

Some time ago we started to have awareness of what climate change is doing to our planet and so we wanted to find out more about it. We learnt to separate waste accordingly and how it can be recycled and also that some animals are in danger of extinction. So what we did was some workshops about recycling and what those animals do to survive.

Hace ya unas semanas empezamos a darnos cuenta de lo que el cambio climático está haciendo a nuestro planeta así que quisimos descubrir mas sobre ello. Aprendimos a separar la basura correctamente y como se puede reciclar y también que algunos animales están en peligro de extinción. Así hicimos unos talleres sobre reciclaje y lo que esos animales hacen para sobrevivir.

In another workshop, we got more conscious of the amount of waste that lies in the seas and oceans.
En otro taller, nos dimos cuenta de la cantidad de residuos que yacen en los mares y océanos.

On a different day, we created posters in the classroom about recycling. Then we went out to our neighbourhood in order to pin those posters on walls so that people become more aware of how important it is to recycle since they are oblivious to the fact that tons of garbage are dumped into our oceans every single day.
Otro día creamos pósters en la clase sobre reciclaje. Y después salimos al barrio a pegar esos posters en paredes para que la gente se conciencie de lo importante que es reciclar ya que no tienen ni idea de que cada día se tiran a los océanos toneladas de basura.

HALLOWEEN !!

This year during Halloween week we did lots of activities; in the classroom, workshops with primary years 1 & 2 and a story telling in the Library which had been turned into a spooky haunted house!

Este años en la semana de Halloween hicimos un montón de actividades, en el aula, talleres con las clases de 1º y 2º de primaria y un cuenta cuentos en la biblioteca ¡que se había convertido en una terrorífica casa encantada!
